The future of the internet

The internet was designed assuming every user is human.

We believe the internet is entering another computing transition.

AI agents are beginning to take on work that once required people. They'll need a way to communicate, establish identity, and participate in the internet alongside us.

Three stacked envelopes labelled Email for AI agents

Chapter 01

AgentMail

Manifesto

The internet assumed a person

A person connected to a phone, browser, payments, contacts and mail

Someone

  • opened the browser.
  • checked the inbox.
  • created the account.
  • verified the code.
  • replied.

Every major internet primitive quietly assumed there would always be a human between the software and the world.

  • Payments
  • Phone
  • Browser
  • Email
  • Identity

The primitives of the human internet.

These aren't just products.

They're the primitives people use to participate on the internet.

Chapter 02

AgentMail

Manifesto

The users are changing

It is beginning to take on the work of real people. Millions of AI agents. Soon billions. They're going to negotiate, coordinate, buy, sell, schedule, support customers.

An active agent chip

As agents take on longer-running work, they begin needing something humans already have:

A way to communicate.

A persistent identity.

Chapter 03

AgentMail

Manifesto

Borrowed identities

Agents shouldn't have to borrow our credentials. Today, most agents inherit our identities. They borrow Gmail, Browsers, Slack, Phones, Accounts.

An agent chip framed by the email, browsers, phone and accounts it borrows

That works for assistants.
It doesn't work for independent software.

A person relaying every interaction to an agent through borrowed accounts

An agent doing its own work deserves its own inbox, its own conversations, and clear boundaries around what it can access.

People should collaborate with agents, not become the relay for every interaction.

Chapter 04

AgentMail

Manifesto

New users, new infrastructure

New users change what the internet needs.

Every major computing shift created new infrastructure.

Cloud → AWS
Payments → Stripe

Now agents need:

Communication.
Identity.

Trust.

This is the infrastructure we’re building.

The computing continuum: mainframe, minicomputer, personal, GUI, web, mobile, cloud and agents eras around one ring

Chapter 05

AgentMail

Manifesto

Why email comes first

The world already knows how to send an email.

  • Businessesuse it.
  • Governmentsuse it.
  • Hospitalsuse it.
  • Banksuse it.
  • Customersuse it.
  • Softwareuse it.
An AgentMail letter, agent@agentmail.to, sliding out of its envelopeAgentMail

It crosses organizational boundaries in a way few technologies do.

If AI agents are going to become first-class participants on the internet, they need a way to participate in the existing network.

An inbox gives them exactly that.

They will be AI agents working on behalf of people, businesses, and organizations around the world.

Chapter 06

AgentMail

Manifesto

Our mission

Our mission is to build the infrastructure that lets AI agents communicate, establish identity, and operate safely across the internet.

The AgentMail team

AgentMail is building the infrastructure for agents to participate in the internet alongside us.
